Can anyone tell me, if rooflights are to be guarded using a wire mesh rather
than guardrails and toeboards, is there a document (e.g. British Standard)
that gives details of the specification of such a mesh covering and the load it
must be able to withstand, i.e. how would you know that it was adequate?

Hi,

In addition to Geoff's message, you should bear in mind that wire mesh exposed to inclement weather 24/7 will not retain its strength over a period of time. Additionally, if people actually choose this to walk on it will put stresses on the metal which could lead to metal fatigue - either you have to be very vigilant with this and have it tested very regularly or go for barriers.

In my opinion (and please remember this is only MY opinion), it would be unwise to use any kind of mesh on roof lights for safety protection unless you can absolutely guarantee that this will be weatherproofed and unwalked on all the time.
