I'm sure I remember reading in some H&S journal or other in the last few months that guidance relating to the maximum size of holes in these grilles (which cover the outlet from pools which draw water into the treatment equipmment/process) had been revised recently after the tragic death - by drowning- of a child who had got [inquisitive] her fingers trapped.
I believe that published standards (8mm) have been revised to 4mm.
Can anyone substantiate and/or provide any further information or directions to "safety alerts" ?

Hi Steve
I have found some HSE guidance whcih may be of some use to you.
As with most things in our walk of life risk assessment is the key to identifying the need for restricted grille sizes.
There will also be a need to consider pump flow rates, water velocity etc.
