Has anyone heard that by the end 2004 all public domain buildings must comply with DDA regulations as outlined by EU? Is so, what are the requirements regarding signage?

Posted By Jonathan Breeze John, That appears to be the case from briefly scanning the documents I have downloaded today from the Disability Rights Commission website on: www.drc-gb.orgGuess who got the job of looking into it at our organisation. The general recommendation in the catchily titled document, "Making access to goods & services easier for disabled customers - A practical guide for small businesses and other small service providers", appears to be the provision of clearer signs in contrasting colours with clear typefaces and supplimented by visual/ pictoral symbols. Hope that helps.

I believe also, that from the 1st October 2004 those that provide goods/services to the public have to make “reasonable adjustments” to their premises to cater for those persons with disabilities so as not to disadvantage them.
I can see the possibility, after this date, of numerous lawsuits abounding from champions in wheelchairs who have been denied access too many places those abled bodied amongst us take for granted.
Our organisation moved to new premises in another town and we made alterations prior to moving in. With the impending changes that are to come next year we installed an accessable wc and made other alterations that were much easier and less costly at this stage than to wait until next year.
