Hi guys,
Anyone got an idea of where the use of inflated air bags, and/or "bean bags" to protect those falling eg during house building originated.
Somewhere in my mind set I think the initial use was abroad? Trying to find references to use in eg the 1990s.

the use of air bags, bean bags and empty cardboard boxes was developed by stuntmen. Sorry I cant give you a name as it is a sort of collective industry - a club. You leap off high buildings or you are not a member.
Like the car industry in it's crash tests, stunt men realised that the best way to protect themselves was to spread the kinetic energy transfer over a period of time - with a car we talk about the crumple zone - where the front of your car bends and distorts, slowing down the transfer of energy to your body. That is what the air bag or cardboard boxes do.
Mind you, I prefer to stop them falling off the roof in the first place. Barricades, handrails, harnesses ...
