Posted By Zoe Barnett My team is competing to do some work in one of our schools. Last week I went there to have a chat with the head about what we could offer and he showed me the card of one of the contractors the school has approached. I was unfamiliar with the designatory letters after the consultant's name - instead of the usual IOSH or BSC abbreviations there was a string of initials, the only ones of which I can remember were F.Inst.
Is this another way of writing FIOSH? Or could I perhaps be justified in wondering whether the gentleman is strictly speaking a safety specialist?

Posted By Hazel Harvey Zoe, The only designatory letters permitted by IOSH are FIOSH,RSP; FIOSH; MIOSH,RSP; MIOSH; GradOSH and TechSP. Other designations could well relate to other Institutions and may well be genuine but not necessary relevant to OSH practice.

Posted By Merv Newman Zoe,
anyone who has F.inst after his name could well be a F.ink
I have no doubt that your presentation was much the most professional.
I keep reminiscing (or is it deliquescing)on this forum - I used to be a SIST, aiming to be a MIST, hoping to become a FIST
Student, Member and Fellow of the Institute of Science Technicians. Does it still exist without me, I wonder ?

I work for a consultancy and so come across this sort of thing quite often.
Potential clients often show me business cards of H&S Consultants who have offered their "services". Often, there is no mention of IOSH, or even IIRSM (Should I have said "even"? Oh let's not start that again!).
I am amazed how many print their name and then "NEBOSH Certified"!
Kind regards

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith Nick,
I have come across one of those cards with N.E.B.O.S.H.Cert on it.
The person who issuing this card, after seeing my card with FOISH RSP asked me if I had ever had any safety training.
The unfortunate thing was they were being serious.
