Posted By David Bruce Could someone please clarify whether you require to attend a course before erecting system scaffolding. I understand that system scaffolds are far easier to install. Similarly would a harness be required during erection.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posted By Alan Barthrope Assuming you are talking about aluminium tower scaffolds, I believe you cannot use harnesses. The components/frames have not been tested or manufactured to take the weight of persons doing Tarzan acts from them. A Person falling from one of these with a harness attached would probably result in the tower being pulled over. you definately need proper training for the erection, dismantling and alteration of such scaffold systems. One of the most important elements of safety is working from a safe place of work during the complete process. Many opereatives have not got a clue how this is achieved. Seek a competent Trainer. Regards Alan.

Posted By Ken Taylor The legal duty requires competence. In order to be able to demonstrate this to an enforcing authority or Court evidence of proper training is considered essential. I would not consider allowing anyone to erect this at work without PASMA certificated training.

Posted By Martin Daly If you are going to erect scaffolding the law requires that you must have a scaffolders ticket.
To find out more look up the CITB web site.
Zip up is a brand name used by a maker of aluminnium towers you do not need a scaffolders ticket but you must have recieved training to erect aluminnium towers.
