Posted By Paul Cook Leslie,
You need to check with the harness manufacturer as to its suitability.
Generally if the harness is used for fall arrest it should be capable of holding the fallen body in the upright position. The most effective way to do this, is to attach the fall arrest device to an point on the centre of the chest or the middle of the back. This cannot be achieved by using only a sit harness.
Sit harnesses are usually only used for some work positioning, or work restraint tasks with full body harnesses being used for fall arrest.
Petzl do a work and rescue catalogue with a big table of harnesses, telling ya whats ok and whats not.

Posted By Luke Dam For those operating in Australia (As I am!) the only type of harness suitable for fall protection is a full body harness.
The lanyard MUST be connected to thew rear dorsal D ring only.
If connected to the chest loops or side D rings, then this is considered a "Limited Free Fall" where you can only fall a maximum of 600mm. (Such as when using a vertical safety line permanently mounted on a ladder for example)
Refer to AS1891.4 for more info....
