Has anyone had any dealings with the provision of guards for very old food mixers in commercial kitchens?

We have had a problem here at the College with very old equipment, we looked at getting guards for our food mixers etc but found that most of the manufactureres could not supply as they were out of date. We have gone down the route of replacing the machinery instead

Have been in the same position as Ian. Although some of the older floor standing machines are perfectly serviceable, the provision of bowl and attachment guards is either economically not viable or they are just not available. I had to release an old Crypto Peerless machine for that very reason however was able to "donate" it to their museum - so it is having a useful afterlife.

I have managed to get a guard to fit on a couple of occasions, not normally with the help of the manufacturers though. Try measuring the bowl width and getting one fabricated locally, or look at the bowl and guards provided by Crypto Peerless or Hobart, a spare for an existing newer machine may fit.

With large food mixers you could consider bowl extension rings or a deeper bowl to restrict access to the mixer by distance.
