Recently been reviewing a work area which is used for post and sorting out documents, the area is to be built on the average measurements of the staff members to use this area, however I have been doing some research and I have found BS on seated workstation, but cannot find any guidance on the height of workstation for persons who stand whilst working!
Any help or guidance would be appreciated

The working height should be 50-100mm below elbow height. While there are standard tables giving bodily dimensions for subsets of the population (male, female, young, old, etc.), you could easily determine the range of elbow heights for the employees working in the area and provide a work surface to suit.
If this sort of query often arises, it is worth buying a copy of Bodyspace by Stephen Pheasant and published by Taylor and Francis

Why not get proper chirs which are longer so that people can sit, Airline check-in springs to mind.
