With the increase in number and location of mobile phone masts, I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of any instances where they have been subject to lightning strikes.
Cheers

Eric,
As part of the design of these masts they are fitted with lightning protection that is either linked into the existing buildings protection system or protected by their own system.
I have not come across any specific instances of lightning strikes of mobile phone masts.

I am sure lightning strikes are inevitable - the laws of physics make it a near certainty, but I doubt whether anyone is bothered to report it.
The aerial which broadcasts the signals to our pager system was struck by lightning about two years ago, and it damaged the broadcasting equipment. Not a mobile phone mast, but analogous.
