We have a telescopic materials handler on site, and it was supplied by the manufacturer with pick up hitch to allow trailers to be towed and we also use an personnel access cage for maintenance.

The SOP and RA's will identify operating criteria and conditions. Other things to be aware of are that the machine should be fitted with a system of valves that will lock the mast into position should a hose or something else fail (but I think that most machines are fitted with these features these days). Also be ware that there is a different training module required for telehandlers, it is different to forklifts and if you are using a personal access cage the testing requirements are more stringent.
