Posted By Jonathan Breeze I've recently been made aware of the following article in the Spectator: http://www.spectator.co....issue=2003-12-06&id=3806 Needless to say I'm a bit upset about what I read. Do people really think that the ONLY reason h&s practitioners exist is to prevent companies being sued?

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Jonathan Journalists have never been averse to pontificating from a position of ignorance nor will they let the facts get in the way of a good story. We are all aware of instances where attention to H & S has saved lives but good news does not sell newspapers. Paul

Posted By Ian Mycroft Jonathan I have often had the derogatory comments made when I tell people what I do for a living. I sometimes feel that if, when asked what my occupation is, I said “well actually I chop the heads of babies and suck out their blood”, I might get a more favourable reaction (“Oh, do you really, we don’t get many like you round here, why don’t you go and see Mrs Smith, she’s got triplets, she wont miss one”). Instead of “Health and Bloody Safety it’s your type that stop us getting with earning a living, after all it’s only bloody common sense. Honestly, if I had any feelings they would really hurt. Ian

Posted By Chris Abbott LOL Ian! Unfortunately it's quite true - the stigma attached to the job of a safety advisor tends to be a little too harsh in my opinion - but we go on doing what we do because we do actually care about the staff we are tying to protect… People have the right to go to work without being injured or killed - I know it's silly, but it's true.. 'What are you doing today love?' 'Thought I'd pop into the office today, maybe see if I can finish that project off…' 'Ok, should I have dinner waiting for you tonight?' 'Best not. You never know if I'll slip on that bloody puddle near my desk, where the ceiling tiles been missing for a month.' 'I'll pack you some fresh clothes in case you need to go to hospital…..' Anyway.. it could be worse, you could be a traffic warden.. :X Chris

Posted By Jonathan Breeze ROTFLMAO Yeah, I guess I was being over sensitive again - probably because it was the boss who gave me the cutting. Although I do look forward to the no doubt up & coming programme: "When Louis met IOSH"
