Posted By peter gotch Barrie there's at least one BS or BSEN which indicates that you shouldn't be able to get a 100mm dia ball through. Regards, Peter

Posted By Ken Taylor 100mm appears in Approved Document K to the Building Regs too - although applied where children under 5 are likely to be present.

Posted By Robert K Lewis This actually refers to the gaps between vertical rods/panels/rails and not the Stanchion to stanchion span. This latter figure is totally within the designers control although a figure of 2 metres is probably the norm. Greater spacing leads to increasing deflection problems mid-span. The other key requirement for work places is currently seen in the CHSW regs, but the proposed Work at Height restate it, - The gap between any horizontal members must not exceed 470mm. This will be the standard for all places of work soon. Bob
