Posted By Natalie I am looking for some advice! We are a large manufacturing organisation who employ one occupational health doctor on each site. Our Scottish site doctor is now looking to put his rates up and we were wondering what the current hourly charging rate for a qualified GP with a Dip Occ Med should be? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Posted By gary k browning There is guidance from the general medical council on rates of pay and the royal college or surgeons But basically they can charge what they can get away with 1 Do they provide you with the service you require 2 Are they competent to do the job 3 Are they qualiifed 4 What is their worth to the company 4 Get other quotes express medicals Bupa etc etc Occupationally qualified Doctors are not the glamour end of the market but when used correctly they can provide excellent guidance advice and opinion. Use them well, but they will want paying but if they do what you want its cheap money if they don't get another one.

Posted By Allan St.John Holt It's not often that one can provide some accurate info! The rate for the job eight months ago was published by the BMA, and surprisingly is around £15 an hour for a 35-hour week. Of course there will be travel etc on top. The source of this is the Remuneration Supplement of the British Medical Association dated June 2003. Some good material in the document, also refers you to 'The Occupational Physician' available from the BMA Web site at www.bma.org.uk and tel: 020 7383 6166 which is the BMA OH Committee Secretariat. Hope this helps, Allan
