Posted By Duncan Watson I am migrating to Australia and although I am a H&S Rep I only have IOSH certifcates although I am currently studying for the NEBOSH Certificate. Can anyone tell me if there is a similar Organisation to IOSH or NEBOSH in Australia and do they accept the above certificates. Duncan

Posted By Richard Spencer Duncan Safety Institute of Australia is the equivalent in Oz. I would speak to the people at Australia House in London for the equivalency position. NEBOSH or NVQ are not known here. You can do TAFE courses in each state depending on where you intend to settle. Alternatively you can apply to one of the Universities that do Batchelor degrees, Graduate Certificates, of Graduate Diplomas. The situation is that in NSW Workers Compensation is run by the State Government but licensed to Insurance Companies. As the Bill for WC has steadily increased standards for OHS have in the main also increased. The ACT (Australian Capital Territory) have just Gazetted the Industrial Manslaughter Act 2003 which has put a lot of organisations on edge. To see what employers are asking for have a look on the net for the following electronic job sites: SEEK.COM JOBS IN AUSTRALIA CAREERONE Welcome to the world’s best kept secret, I hope you don’t get too homesick as it’s a long way from family and friends – but then I been here for 36 years. Its 10am temp is about 20 degrees as I write this email I am looking out of my office window (I work from home) blue sky birds singing in the trees and I know why I and my fellow émigrés left the ‘sceptred isle’. It was to find a slightly bigger one with deserts, snow capped mountains, savannah, tropical rain forest, barrier reef, wide open plains, where people say talk with a funny accent, saying, “gad day mate”, and “she’s apples”, and “fair suck of the sav”, and “whose going to win the cricket on Sad’ day”. But then I am a bit bias. You are either going to let the place into your very soul or hate it. It’s all a question of perspective. Best of Australian Luck. Richard
