Posted By M Price Hi /I wondered if anyone would be able to advise me .Due to my employer relocating, I am soon to be made redundant {June/July?}. I am just beginning to think about my CV and although I have been a Health and Safety Advisor for five years or so. Due to internal development and training I have never had to write a CV as an H&S advisor / manager. I have attended CV workshops etc but feel the standard format may not be the best or the most professional option. If you could take five minutes to read my thoughts below and throw me your pennies worth I would much appreciate it. If you have a H&S qualification that meets the membership requirements of tech spec level of IOSH is it fair to describe it as equalling nebosh dip 1 [thus clarifying its level i.e. NVQ4/Nott, Trent /TUC H&S level 3 etc] Would it be correct to apply for positions requiring NEBOSH Dip 1 with one of the above qualifications? How much do you state the obvious “Experience in Risk assessment? Audits ?Legislative compliance? / IT skills ? Permit to work etc Is there a preferred format in H&S, I told CVs are initially scanned extremely quickly so what’s more paramount, job experience + skills? Qualifications? Membership to relevant bodies? etc. Thanks Mike Mcgale

Posted By Chris Abbott Hi Mike, Firstly let me say that most employers will take a look at your qualifications and experience - they put a standard "NEBOSH Dip 1" - but in reality they need someone to do the job - and with your experience and Quals that shouldn't be a problem. As to CV - My CV has a summary of me at the top, and Key skills list (bullet points) - for example. A Safety Professional with 5 years experience in Risk Management, coupled with bla bla bla... * Key Skills * General & Fire Risk Management at Buckingham Palace * Good and effective communicator * Works well as part of a team, or as an individual * Member of the Institute of Spacemen Etc... But the best people to advise would be an agency like Principle People - they helped me. http://www.principal-people.co.uk/ Best, Chris
