Posted By Homer I have just read the proposals for new membership structure for IOSH. Perhaps I have missed something but will the Dip 1 now no longer have any standing? It appears that it is getting thrown in with certificate.
Also on a previous thread much debate was given on a few Corporate members of IOSH have gained this qualification through the old boy network, is it fair they now receive Chartered membership?
My understanding was Tech SP and Affiliate formed a large part of IOSH income. You may find, that if I am correct in my assumption, a large chunk of finance will no longer be there.
At least IIRSM recognises Diploma.

Posted By Hazel Harvey Homer, Yes you have missed something. The national standards in health and safety were revised last year and the level 3 practice standards on which the Dip 1 was based were withdrawn. The outcome of this is that from September NEBOSH will have a one stage level 4 Diploma again so Dip 1 as such will not exist. The new IOSH membership structure is based on the national standards as well, so those passing the Dip 1 as it is phased out by NEBOSH, has had to be placed in with the NEBOSH Cert. As most Dip 1 holders progress to Dip 2 or NVQ 4 then it is really for transitional purposes only. The Dip 1 was only ever meant to be the first part of the Diploma qualification not a stand alone in its own right. All transitional arrangements (see May SHP) are based on the fact that members must be demonstrating Continuing Professional Development, so no one will actually get Chartered status without demonstrating that they have undertaken recent development activities.
