Posted By Robert Paterson Hi to Fellow professionals
I am looking at forming an alcohol and drug policy for the workplace and would like a few pointers in how to begin.
If anyone would like to share any polices that they have I would be most obliged. We have machine operatore and forklift drivers.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards Robert Paterson

Posted By John Murgatroyd I can't resist this: Workers: No drugs, no drink. Management: Frequent social drinking allowed and only social drugs allowed.

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Robert,
I am in the middle of preparing such a document for approval and will forward a copy of my scrawlings forthwith.
Biggest problem I have encountered so far is the willingness of some staff to buy in to the concept that they are actually being paid by their employer for their UNIMPAIRED time!
But we're working on that attitude and it's as well that it came out during the consultation phase, than after the policy had been implemented.

Posted By Nick Egan I'm not sure I would agree with Johnathan's concept, that an employer pays you for just for your "unimpaired time". Surely case law has been built on the concept of "you take as you find". What about the employee impaired because a virus, or the working mum (or dad)of a baby who has had a sleepless night? Johnathan's concept is too Orwellian.
Cheers Nick

Posted By ANTHONY EVANS Robert I have just returned from the Safety Epo at the NEC. It was here that I spoke with a company by the name of Tricho-Tech Limited. They have offered, free of charge to send a few drugs and alcohol policies that some organisations are using. I will gladly pass these onto once received.Perhaps a look on their web site may be of use. www.trico-tech.co.uk. Regards A.S.Evans
