My company plan to send me on this course in October. I have basic knowledge and have just attended the IOSH Working Safely course. I'm a little nervous as to what to expect as I'm new to H&S.

Also I understand there is a practical assessment - is this carried out in my own workplace? Many thanks.

Julia,
don't worry, if you did well on working safely, you should be OK with managing safely as the next step. The course can be taxing, but if you put the work in, you should be fine (if you work in a management or supervisory position). The workplace assessment is based in your workplace, and you look for such things as chemical hazards or machinery hazards and write a short amount about them and controls for example. There is also a risk assessment exercise involved in this, and a short exam at the end.
Hope this helps, don't panic and use it to open your eyes, you will get a lot out of it.
All the Best
John
