Posted By Malcolm Hogarth Can anybody out there assist me with identifying a company that deals with solutions for manual handling issues? The scenario that I have a problem with is the moving of large (industrial) wheeled steaming racks. These are currently moved manually in and out of walk in steam ovens. It is quite an effort to get the racks in the oven when cold but there are added hazard when removing the racks when they are wet and hot. We have loked at the option of moving the racks with a pallet truck but this is just as difficult and I am looking for some type of mechanical/ powered solution. I have seen some literature previously for this sort of thing but cannot remember where it was. Thank you.

Posted By Jimmy Malcolm, I used to have the same problem with walk-in retorts and rotary ovens. Overcame it by in-house design using pnematic pulling arm onto a "railway" track directed to the cooling areas. Not cheap.

Posted By Ron Hunter Malcolm, Yousay you've tried a pallet truck, but would prefer a powered solution, so how about a powered pallet truck? I'm sure they're available from the moving and handling equipment suppliers out there?

Posted By Edward H Try pedestrian controlled tugs as an option. Nu-Star and Master Mover come to mind but try putting pedestrian tug or truck into Google

Posted By Richard Spencer Malcolm Look for a designer in the UK who can do the engineering design work. Be cautious about not using professional design personnel. Ensure you provide for safety mechanisms and a statement from the designer, manufacurer and installer. Trial and signoff statement from those involved. Ensure no hazards and potential risks to workforce. Richard
