Hi everyone

I'm considering purchasing software to help manage the health and safety process including risk assessments etc. Following a couple of mergers last year we have grown rapidly and are now a housing association with 5,000 mainstream properties and a subisidiary care company providing care to people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and the homeless. In total we have approx 600 staff and 40 locations including dedicated office accommodation, offices in premises which used to be residential flats and small group homes for people with learning disabilities (approx 4 residents in each). With the number of different locations I am now struggling to maintain records and keep up to date with contracts etc and thought a software package might be more efficient.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? As usual limited resources require the best package for the least money.

All advice gratefully received.

Take a look at www.safety-software.co.uk

They have an excellent web/intranet based accident reporting package which is very adaptable and may solve some of your problems.

It is amazingly easy to use and modify and is supplied by a company who will give a high level of support.

I'm currently installing it at my company of 80 sites in 23 countries.

Phone Stuart Watson for more info on 0870 830 7900 and please mention my name.

[I have no connection to the company, but it is just nice to be able to pass on a good contact as there are too few around!]

National Britannia offer a package called Erisk Manager.

The package is designed to manage risk effectively and is a fully interactive web based package, so no costly software installations are necessary. As the system is web based access to your managemnet system can be viewed wherever and when ever you wish and in real time.

Erisk can incorporate health and safety management, environmental management, Fire safety, DDA audits, water safety management and asbestos.

Currently the package is very successfully used in the UK by over 4000 clients many of whom are property management companies tasked with the management of health and safety and fire risk etc of their portfolio of properties.

For more information feel free to contact me in the first instance:

I conducted my dissertation based around Knowledge Management in Health and Safety.

As a result I analysed some computer based systems and approaches. Although not in-depth reading I have emailed you an extract from my dissertation regarding software solutions.

I am currently developing a custom designed solution for the organisation I am currently consulting with at the moment. It is based on Microsoft Access and is designed to make form filling, primarily with risk assessment, as easy as possible over a varied discipline and distributed site.

In your case I would suggest considering a web based platform either held on your own servers on renting the service from a provider. If however you have a good IT infrastructure between sites then any option is available.

Any more questions, drop me a line.

I would agree with Chris, I think a web based package would most suit your needs.

Having been involved extensively with the property sector (including several large housing associations)National Britannia have designed the Erisk Manager system to encompass the requirements of multi sited organisations and property portfolios as well as the single site organisations. The package is very much tried and tested with 2/3 of the shopping centres in the UK running the system as well as over 4000 clients in other sectors.

For more information about National Britannia, the services we can offer or Erisk Manager please do not hesitate to contact me at kevin_west@natbrit.com
