We have an employee who is a haemophiliac. The individual is a fit person and has provided us with all emergency "what to do in the event of" details, and carries a discreet tag. My concern is that the individual is sometimes required to work alone and away from work. The work involved is, by definition, very low risk, are there any other specific precautions I can take?

Robert,

I just checked this out with our chief Medical Officer as it is an interesting question that I hadn't thought of.

He says that nearly all haemophiliacs are very self-aware and well-informed, so the important thing is to have a talk to the person to make sure that they have no concerns themselves. If they do, they should be addressed of course. The other thing is that they should carry a card or other identifier of their status to alert first aiders and others in the event of an incident. Otherwise he feels no special precautions are needed under the circumstances you indicate.

Hope this helps.

Allan
