Posted By Lewis T Roberts Anybody else think that this is a crock? I went to the one day safe pass which is mandatory in Irelnd and I have never had my intelligence (low that it is) so insulted in my life. Speaking to others that have had to sustain such dullness of the senses it is apparenetly normal.

Posted By James K Lewis, I agree with you totally. It can a boring day when one knows the contents and what the instructor is tring to get across. On the other hand I have come across many operatives on site were the safe pass program opened their eyes to the potential hazards that can arise from work in the construction industry. As boring as this one day course is to some of us I think the overall objective is to inform the general woring population on sites of the hazards that can exist. What I also see happening is this...When a person has the course comlpeted they arrive back to their site and start pointing out the hazards and risks associated with their respective tasks to their employers or foremen, but after a while when their voices are not getting the attention reqiured they loose all interest and then its bck to square one, let someone else worry about it. I have introduced "suggestion boxes" on all of our sites and while we do get some funny or odd suggestions, some of the ideas are fairly good. I try to act on the good suggestions as much as I can and I also approach the employee that came up with the suggestion and offer feed back. Feed back and consultation with employees is an excellnt way of maintaining awareness regarding H&S in the workplace. Jim

Posted By Delwynne sorry for being such a pedant - but in the previous response is there an h or a k missing in the 'general woring population'? Sorry, no offence meant. The writers point was well made and spelling is generally not as important as getting the point across. Just brought a smile to my face, which was much needed. Thanks.
