Posted By Oliver Whitefield Hi Barny If you mean MaPS, it stands for Member of the Association of Plannning Supervisors. This is a trade association for planning supervisors and full details of how to join etc can be found on their website: www.aps.org.ukHope this helps Oliver

Posted By Ken Taylor It could also stand for the former Municipal and Public Services Section of IOSH - which was superseded by the Public Services Specialist Group.

Posted By Simon Wright In its most commonly used form MAPS indicates that someone is a member of the Association of Planning Supervisors as per the first response. In light of forthcoming changes to the CDM Regs and the almost guaranteed removal of the term and role of 'Planning Supervisor', the Association will be changing its name to the 'Association for Project Safety'. The government never wanted a separate profession of Planning Supervisors to develop in the light of the 1994 CDM Regs and has now sought to remove them or integrate them into other existing job roles in the construction team.
The 'Association of Planning Supervisors' has worked hard at establishing and developing the competency of Planning Supervisors. Numerous Association CPD events take place across the country throughout the year which have created a network of professionals who have played their part in increasing the profile and effectiveness of health and safety on UK construction sites and notably in design offices around the country.
While the APS is a fledgling association compared to IOSH, I have gained valuable information, opinions, clarifications and feedback on CDM issues and related H&S issues since joining.
The 'Association for Project Safety' will take on board the expected legislative changes and continue to play a crucial role in advising and coordinating those who will fulfill the duties of the redundant title 'Planning Supervisor', whatever their new title.
