Posted By Steve Cartwright Some of our products are packaged in cardboard boxes and weigh over 25kgs. The weight varies between 28 and 33 kgs. Currently we do not mark the boxes with their weight. I have advised our company that they need to record the weight on each box. Because of the variation in weight can we get away with labelling each box which says approximately 30 kgs or will we have to weigh each individual box. Also is anybody aware of any regulations concerned with packaging. Thanks in advance for any replies. Steve Cartwright

Posted By Paul Oliver Steve, Rather then display actual weights, have you considered a sticker system. ie. green, amber, red. You will need to inform and train all personnel how to handle these packages as a matter of course, but if they see bright a bright red sticker, that may alert them to a two-man lift more easily than type written information. However firstly you need to consider manual handling as the last resort in order to reduce the likelihood of injuries occuring when lifting 28-33kg. I've been trying to implement a similar process in the factory where i work, but everyone keeps sticking there head in the sand. regards paul
