Posted By Robert Fisher Can anyone please help? I am trying to get hold of some information that could be used to educate young school children in the hazards asociated with construction sites. Any information would be very much appreciated. i.e. colouring competitions etc

Posted By Website Content Co-ordinator Robert,
IOSH has just finished running a kids competition to promote kids safety on construction sites. If you go to the news section of the site, click on competition and on the right hand side you will see our interactive area. Here we have useful links, facts and downloadable construction warning signs. We will also be launching a winners gallery soon which could give your kids some good ideas.
I hope this helps, it’s a shame you missed this years!

Posted By Dee Robert,
There is a video produced by the HSE called GAME OVER with the purpose being to keep children off building sites.
The programme is in two parts. The first is a drama about three children who go to a building site with disastrous consequences; the second part gives a resume of other hazards that could hurt them and reinforces the message: NEVER GO ON A BUILDING SITE.
Available through HSE Books, can let you know ISBN no if you wish.
Cheers, Dee

Posted By Robert Fisher Many thanks to you all. I can run a little competition for them now, prior to a site visit.
It's good to start safety at this age! (5-8 yr olds)
Thanks again

If you are having construction work done at a school most contractors are willing to make a safety presentation to the children prior to works commencing. The presentations are geared to the age range using resources/methods highlighted by previous respondents. Some of the larger companies use their own in-house produced materials. The presentations are very effective in alerting the children to construction hazards on live sites at their schools.
