Posted By Zoe Barnett Are any other forum members going to the expo next Wednesday? Is there a Forum Handshake or other identifying feature to help us recognise each other?

Posted By Jonathan Breeze Aww Ken, go on - wear the conker! Wear it as a protest against all the duff decisions made on spurious health & safety grounds. Wear it for those poor children that have lost their heritage. Clip it to your delegates badge in order to expiate those duff calls we all make. Wear it with pride! . . . Me, I'm not going.

Posted By Ken Taylor We have one of these trees in the Grounds of one of our schools. It drops mini missiles, the roots make the paving uneven and it's toxic - so not a very appropriate association for an item of insignia for a health and safety professional - and I do have a reputation for being boring to uphold. I can imagine the headlines: 'Nuts at Health and Safety Event'.

Posted By fats van den raad If you are really gonna wear conkers you at least ought to let the organisers know..... So that they have time to make up the nesecary allergy warning notices for display "Warning - This Exhibition May Contain Nuts" (On second thoughts, maybe they should be doing that anyway)

Posted By George Wedgwood Referring to the earlier anorak or 'sad' sagas from safety geeks, it seems that this has provoked a number to stick to their sole skill!! It's a shame that no one can meet up with Zoe to at least share a coffee! Come on colleagues and at least arrange a meet - sorry I am elsewhere! Regards, George

Posted By Skippy Maidment Hi Zoe Did you go then? I would have tagged along were it not for the exorbitant costs of travelling. Did you manage to heave your way back on the underground, using your heavily laden freebie bags to carve a gangway through the young, elderly and infirm? What does one do with 30 biros, 2 china mugs (chipped), 5 keyrings with resus sheet, 12 placemats made out of anti stress matting, 121 pairs of earplugs in 30 styles, 9 assorted latex/non latex gloves and assorted mints gathering fluff in a carrier bag with one broken handle? BTW promise I'll PM you next week, too busy playing with my new toy!! http://www.fourwinns.com...ily=sportboat&model=180H Sorry but I had to do it (the voices!!)

Posted By James Goodstadt Nice boat Skippy. I'd buy one myself, but it wouldn't be as fun using it on Manchester ship canal in the pouring rain (dodging the shopping trolleys, rubbish bags etc) Enjoy yourself. James

Posted By Zoe Barnett Right then...me and Tracey will be at the expo next Weds. Being expo newbies we don't know the layout but if anyone can tell us the location of the best coffee stand we will be there at 12.00 for a Forum Members Convention. Admission to the Convention will be strictly by presentation of conkers only, unless someone can come up with a suitable password between now and then. After all, we don't want any of the tweed-jacket-clipboard-I-wear-my-hard-hat-in-bed brigade joining us and spoiling the fun. Members of the Convention may then take the opportunity to display the various items of tat that they have collected on their way round. There will be a small prize for the most tasteless freebie found on the day.

Posted By Laurie Thank God there are still few H&S people about with a sense of humour. I can just hear the tweed jacketed brigade already referred to harrumphing away about holding ourselves up to ridicule. I'll not actually be at the expo, but I'll be with you in spirit! Laurie

Posted By Ken Taylor I've just got back from the event. It was connected with a facilities management exhibition - which seemed to take up the major part of the show with a reduced number of H&S type exhibits towards the rear of the hall. There was a notable lack of traditional H&S exhibitors such as PPE providers (and so no free ear plugs), environmental monitoring equipment, etc - but I did find a few useful items which made it worthwhile. Hopefully the H&S section will be expanded in future as it's not always convenient to travel up to Birmingham. I would also like to see smoking banned in the exhibition hall in future. Organisers take note - but please don't start another debate on that issue here!
