I understand that the rules for entry into this category of membership are changing in July 2005, in as much that NEBOSH Dip. 2 by itself will not give automatic entry at MIOSH level.
Does this mean that for anyone sitting Dip. 2 as I am in December 04, this will be the last exam opportunity for gaining entry at MIOSH level without CPD points etc, since anyone sitting it next June will not have the results in time for the July deadline ? - or will IOSH still accept applications after July for those who sat Dip 2 prior to July ?
Hope the above makes sense !

Hi Paul,
If you look on the members forun in membership issues under the heading:
How will the proposed changes to the membership structure affect you? - please let us have your comments
Hazel Harvey answers your question in her posting of 16th July.
Hope this helps

Strictly speaking NEBOSH Dip 2 (or any other qaulification) does not give automatic entry to MIOSH. Under the current bye-laws you also have to demonstrate at least three years full-time experience in health and safety. In the proposed scheme, subject to membership and Privy Council approval, you will be required to complete a 2 year IPD process before entering, the new corporate category of CMIOSH which we hope will be Chartered Member of IOSH. If you complete your examination before July next year (even if you don't yet have the results) you can enter the current MIOSH under the existing conditions. You will then require evidence of 2 years CPD registered with IOSH before you can progress to CMIOSH. Whilst completing the IPD process members will be allowed to use the designation Grad IOSH.
So really its about the same timescale whichever route you need to go after initial qualification.

Hazel,
I am similar scenario to Paul, albeit with exams in May.
If I pass (and I do have 3 years experience)will I be MIOSH or Grad IOSH?
Am I right in thinking entrants after the proposed changes will be Grad IOSH until 2 years of CPD are completed?
I have enrolled for CPD already and will have completed two years CPD in 2006.
Thank you.

So when does the CMIOSH come into play? and I'm not quite sure what is meant by
'which we hope will be Chartered Member of IOSH'
has this not been planned, reviewed and actioned with a time scale?

Peter,
If you are completing in May you will be able to apply under the exisiting rules ie you will need to demonstrate 3 years full-time (pro-rata)experience in health and safety. This will give you MIOSH until you have completed a full 2 year CPD cycle when you will be able to transfer to CMIOSH. At least 1 year of this cycle needs to be after qualification. All of this subject to AGM and Privy Council approval etc.

Lewis,
As I said in the posting to Peter at the moment the proposals are just that. They have to firstly be approved by the membership and then by the Privy Council before we can actually operate the system. The AGM is on Nov 16th but the response from the Privy Council may take some time after that. We hope they will approve our petition for 'Chartered' individual status but we can't make a definite statement until this happens. Hope this clarifies things.
