Posted By Paul Oliver HI Tony, Have you considered obtaining a copy of MDHS 100 and doing a bit of work yourself? Lets see if this generates further responses!!!!!

Posted By PaulA Paul, Even MDHS 100 does not quote prices for an asbestos survey....! Unless you have read a bit that I haven't! Work of this nature has to be undertaken by a competant person..ie P402 surveyor. I hope that from this thread somebody gets a days work and the job gets done properly. "Stay safe" Paul

Posted By Michael Daly As with most new legislation a Regulatory Impact Assessment was prepared for CAWR 2002. Amongst other things the assessment considers how much it will cost the country to implement legislation. According to the tables a Type 3 survey for a warehouse / workshop (about the closest description to a barn) should be about fourteen pence per square metre. This cost is about three years old now so expect some price increase. Strictly the regulations only apply to non-domestic premises so you may not need a survey if the barn convertion is for domestic use. Mike

Posted By john delaine Hi Tony We also need to know the height of the barn. Whilst this may be intended for domestic use, any work on conversion will be covered also by CDM or MHSWR thus the CAWR Regs 2002, but not necessarily reg 4 for surveys. Type 3 surveys are essential for any conversions. This is likely to require two men on site for one day followed by analysis and report with asbestos register. Assuming that access is available to all levels without the surveyor providing special access. The lead surveyor should be trained to BOHS 402 or equivalent and have suitable PI On the above basis you should expect a fee of around £1500.00 to1750.00 John D
