Does anyone know the legal number of staff to number of children all aged under 2 in a day nursery. Although I am generally pleased with the care my 14 month old daughter receives at her nursery last week she managed to achieve accidents on two days (one black eye and on the next day a nasty bump to the head). Also for the second accident I was told an accident form would be available for me to sign the day after which hasn't been produced yet - is this legal. Many thanks.

For some rason I thought it was 1 carer to 3 children. Many nurseries get around this by having 1 experienced and qualified carer to 6 children but with a work experience or someone else around.
As for the accident form/book, i personally would be concerned if i did not get to sign any paperwork on the day that it actually occurred.
Next day to me is wrong as if there were any medical complications the nursery may be able to deny any knowledge of any incident occurring.

It 1 to 3 under 2 years old, then for 2 to 30 year olds its 1 to 4 the 3 to 5 years olds its 1 to 8.
ofsted have loads of info and are very helpful.
My 2 year old fell off a slide and needed stitches, so i have been through all this.
Hope that helps.

The idea of keeping my "terrible" two year old at nursery until he is 30 seems rather appealing at the present time - its a pity I didn't do the same with his little monster of an older brother! Sorry, Faye, I couldn't resist responding to the typo in the last posting - and it's not even Friday yet!!!
