Posted By Stuart Woolfries My motorcycle club is staging an event next year. It will take place in the grounds of a rugby club. I have been tasked to carry out a risk assessment of the site however I am at a loss as to where to start. Can anyone give some advice and guidance on what I should be looking for when carrying out this risk assessment?

Posted By R. Chris Hall Hello Stuart, Best place for that sort of information would be something like the "Event Safety Guide" HSE book. Which i have always found to be a very useful book when planning for outdoor shows. Regards, Chris.

Posted By Kieran J Duignan When I was tasked, at 30 hours notice, to conduct a risk assessment of the public procession and carnival in our town a couple of years ago, I carried out an ergonomic risk assessment. The advantage of this is that it provides you with a conceptual framework for co-ordinating details from the HSE guide to events. One key factor, not possible for me at such short notice, is to negotiate a firm contract with everyone allowed across the venue perimeter. Other key factors are to brief all stewards clearly well in advance and to liaise with representatives of the police, fire, ambulance and transport services, most of whom are usually v. helpful provided they are given adequate notice.

Posted By Martin Gray Stuart You haven't said if your club will be riding/performing. Get a copy of HSG112 'Health & Safety at Motor Sports Events' it gives you a lot of pointers that you need to consider.
