I am about to start work on a construction site induction video and would like some advice on what areas would be the best to cover. It will also have subtitles in other languages, so if anyone can tell me any languages they have come across in the construction industry that would be great.
Thanks,
Jamie

Profane is extensively used in my experience! Seriously :-
General Site Rules
First Aid Provisions
Emergency procedures
Accident and Incident Reporting
Access and Egress
Traffic Management
Permit to Work systems
PPE
Working at heights
Communication
Control of Contractors
I'm sure there are others but it's a starting point.

with regard to other languages other than english to use as sub titles, russian, polish, german, and any of the former ussr state languages. Try talking to the main contractors to find out where their labour is from, (most foreign labour is very skilled & compedent). There is also a leaflet produced by the HSE on foreign language speakers.

I know that somwhere you said construction site induction,General Site Rules First Aid Provisions Emergency procedures Accident and Incident Reporting Access and Egress Traffic Management Permit to Work systems PPE Working at heights Communication Control of Contractorsadd: h&s policy/standards management structure for h&s control h&s reporting arrangements h&s disciplinary procedures site specific hazards, restrictions, limitations, exclusions etc. risk assessment/method statement procedures project specific safety critical operationsThere is also a leaflet produced by the HSE on foreign language speakers.
Now, I haven't got a clue, I'm only the cleaner and I'm not that bright, will I get a pay rise after getting this qualification?

Could not agree more with the last posting from Stran - sorry about any mis-spelling of the name.
The range of people that work on construction sites is such that to be exhaustive is both counter productive and often extremely dull. Remember most of the people that you induct will have already sat on numerous inductions before, they may well have been up very early to get to your induction and however competent they are at their job, they may not be brightest sparks around. Keeping them awake is often the first challenge.
My advice is to make it relevant to your site/s at all times, if you are not say using any abrasive wheels at all (very unlikely in construction I know but couldn't think of anything else!) then don't include this in the induction and stick to specifics. Be very clear about emergency procedures and site rules and always always tell them where they can get a cup of tea from.
Good luck
Jennifer

with regards to languages I belive that spanish/portuguese, russian, cantonese & urdu as well as english would cover a large percentage of the world population, although for london area you may wish to include kosovan & albanian in the above list. Is this video likely to become 'commercially avaliable'? Might be a useful tool if it is, could you let us know?

I would follow on fom Jennifer and suggest you limit it to 10 minutes max otherwise concentration will wane.
So keep it very specific to your site and use simple language.
