Anyone got advice on cleaning up this type of spill. I've just had an incident where a large spill of blood had to be cleaned and we brought in specialist cleaners to do it. I would appreciate other ideas, procedures e.g. spill kits, in-house training etc.

Hello Ron,
If you go to http://www.eurekadirect.co.uk they are a pretty comprehensive first aid supplier and I've bought stuff from them in the past.
Look in the bit under biohazard disposal and hopefully you'll find everything you could possibly need.
Regards,
Karen

Try a company called Response UK. You can find them with an internet search.
They are very good and will even train your staff to be trainers.
Their equipment available off the shelf is first rate.

HSE ACOP " safe disposal of clinical waste" give the following advise.
make up a spill kit - containing disposable glove and aprons, clinical waste sack, paper towels, disposable cloths bleach 10 000ppm.
Pour bleach onto cloths/towels. place over spillage and if possible leave for 5 min contact time , wipe up spillage and place soiled kit in the clinical bag. dispose of as controlled waste. Wash the area with hot soap and water
