Posted By Sean Fraser At the Aberdeen branch we have established ABMET - Aberdeen Branch Millenium Educational Trust - whose purpose is to take the concept of risk to schools so they have at least some understanding of it before venturing into the scary but exciting world of work - we hope to make it less scary without reducing the excitement! This is a theme that the European Agency for Safety and Health have endorsed and encourages mainstreaming occupational safety and heatlh in eductation. To achieve this we have been consulting with Dr. Graham Marshall who is based in Australia and developed a board game called Haz & Zard, which is used to stimulate discussion on risk and how to mitigate against it. It is not currently available commercially as an off-the-shelf product for the UK market and was designed for the Australian culture (originated as a project for their oil industry), so we are negotiating purchase of a modified version that would appeal to UK schoolchildren while Graham retains the intellectual property and copyright. If you are interested, please look up the An Mea website and follow the link to "Haz & Zard" - http://www.anmea.com/

Posted By Katie Hoyland For our staff and their subordinates I have designed, some time ago, a simple game based on the Management Regs and basics of Risk Assessment. We encouraged staff to play it at lucnch breaks and found it was very worthwhile. Its not on the internet as I literally designed it myself on the principles of cluedo (using boards obtained at car boot sales etc, ) but with a health and safety angle. Very Heath Robinson but fun and informative.
