Posted By Ken Taylor Those involved with fire risk assessments may have discovered the variations of interpretation as to what constitutes an adequate assessment - both among practitioners and fire authorities. Without specific officially published guidance regarding this aspect of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regs we have had to borrow from that given regarding the Management of H&S at Work Regs together with publications such as 'Fire Safety: An Employer's Guide' and DfES Managing School Facilities Guide 6. An interesting article by Colin Todd in the current edition of 'Fire Safety Professional' informs us of a forthcoming BSI document 'PAS 999' (currently in draft) which is due for publication in December and is expected to set out 9 steps to fire risk assessment. Hopefully we will soon be able to find out whether we have been doing it right as far as the BSI is concerned.
