I will shortly be gathering information for a dissertation based on "integrated management systems" and will be looking to write up a best practice approach based on a number of case studies of those who have been through this process.

Does anyone out there work for a company who has such a system, and who would be willing to share the highs and lows of achieving integration, either via email, or if based in the North West/North Wales area or Bournemouth/Poole area, via site visits, as I regularly work in these locations. I am hoping to get about 5 or 6 case studies together. Any help would be much appreciated.

Please reply to: davewhitfield@ntlworld.com

Regards

Dave

Dave we are in the process of developing an IMS and I've got to say that it is a long and tortuous process, not helped by the fact that there isn't really an auditable h&S standard other than OHSAS 18001 which as you will know isn't a recognised standard. In addition it is extremely difficult to find a third party auditor who can provide an integrated auditing service. Anyway we will continue to persevere.

Third party audit on integrated management systems can be obtained from organisations such as DNV.

Oh, yeah, nearly forgot this. Trent Valley branch next meeting on 18 November has a speaker on integrated management systems. Suggest you contact branch chairman for details, or come along if you can.

I work for a company that have achieved accreditation through LRQA for 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 using an integrated system. This has been developed over the last 3 years with accreditation being granted for each of the standards progressively during that time. It has been a long hard trek but well worth the effort which is ongoing to ensure continual improvement. I am not in a position of authority to suggest it is used for your dissertation but will e-mail you direct with a contact that you could write to. We have offices nationwide and the system is web based so can be viewed and used in all offices.

HSE have also produced some research reports on integrating management systems - with case studies - that are worth having a look at.

In addition, search engines are worth a try, I got a load of good info via Google when researching this myself for my PgC studies
