Posted By david baird Dear all,
Hopefully a few people have been in this position with DSE.
Rather than stand up and lecture people on things DSE and do assessments (which is mindnumbingly boring), we are looking at possibilities of using a software programme which would allow individuals to do the assessments effectively on line and allow us to be able to be demonstrate that we had trained staff.
Has anybody used this type of programme in the past and is it any good, do you still use it, who would you recommend, what are the costs??
Many thanks, David

Posted By Jonathan Breeze David,
It's a matter of learning styles, what suits one staff member may put another to sleep.
And I know that using training software or an electronic help facility would kill me.
On of the best training sessions I ran (from staff feedback at the time) originated as a staff complaint about the setting of their workstation chair.
It was a purely impromptu event & I went through how to set the chair, positioning the monitor & keyboard etc with the individual.
It snowballed from there & the whole department of 10 looked in and became involved.
I concluded by giving them a link to INDG 36 the HSE's guidance leaflet for further information.
More was learned through 15 minutes sanctioned messing about with their workstations and chairs than a 1/2 hour Powerpoint slide presentation could ever do.

We bought a system from a company called J-Media based in Manchester. It is excellent and can be tailored to suit your needs.
The system is installed on our Intranet and we have administration rights which means that at any time we can see how many employees have taken the assessment etc.
Let me know if you need further details.
Regards,
Eric

Posted By Ian Stone WQe have used Cardinus for the last 8 months and found it really useful. We habve had about 900 staff use the programme and had no complaints as to how it works, the database for problems works really well and is easily used and understood
