Has anyone any constructive help on the easiest method to introduce this Policy to construction workers - eg how to get site managers gend up on what gloves are correct for what task etc without ploughing through loads of catalogues? Also what are the "fors" and "against" this policy?

Gleeson Construction operate a mandatory glove policy on all their sites.
You may want to contact their safety dept direct for further information.
a contact telephone number I have is for a guy called brendan macnamara on:
0114 250 0600

pretty old info so names and numbers may have changed but it will start you off.

Dear Sylvia

We adopted the following approach

1) Contacted suppliers to source the best equipment available.

2) Consulted contractors asking for feedback on what they thought of the policy and the best way to implement it.

3) Held on open day where PPE suppliers presented a range of PPE to our stake holders.

4) Conducted trial runs on site in order to get feedback from the PPE users.

5) Collated feed back

6) Asked contractors which PPE they would prefer.

7) Set up a national supply agreement with a major PPE supplier.

8) Developed a gloves and glasses policy.

9) Rolled out to contractors and communicated it to the users through tool box talks, inductions and onsite training.

10) Through a policy of influence and persuasion asked the workforce to take ownership and wear the correct PPE.

The most important element to policy implementation is to ensure that you consult with the workforce because at the end of the day they are the users.

Hope this helps
