Has anyone had to put together a business plan, for how they are going to implement Health and Safety into a company?
The company is in construction and employees about fifty people. If anyone has undertaken such a task, I would very much appreciate some guidance.

Thank you

Steve,

I have spent the last year or so intergrating health and safety strategies into company business plans, rather than writing a health and safety business plan and incorporating it into the company strategy. The reason for the latter being inappropriate is that writing a health and safety business plan without taking into account the company's past, present and future operational, financial, OH and HR etc strategies often give rise to conflict.

My advice regarding this matter could possibly open pandora's box (organisationally speaking) - this is because companies often do not have current business plans. I suggest that you request a copy of your company's business plan and carry out a health and safety situational analysis against each strategy. This may include and evaluation of business systems e.g. recruitment strategies; operational processes e.g. the manner in which people are organised on site; financial plans e.g looking at forecasts for H&S provision and contingency funds etc.

This will enable the creation of a homogenous business strategy (which includes H&S) that pervades the entire business - ranging from the boardroom to the bricklayer.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to email me should you have any further questions.

Regards

Rakesh

Have a plan that have passed on to you direct.
It is borrowed, and is not ours, but is useful for benchmarking.
