Posted By Geoff Spanner Sorry to all for multiple previous entry - interruptions and finger trouble, honest! Regarding the Building Regs: Sect P covers Electrical Safety and is quite wide in its application as it is not just new work. Has anybody reviewed the documentation (available from www.odpm.gov.uk/approved-documents)and assessed its impact on DIYers?

Posted By David Thomas Without the knowledge of these regulations (they havent been advertised that I know of)the average householder will just carry on regardless, as he would even if he knew about "P", cos he knows what he is doing - honest. Suggest you look at www.iee.org.uk and follow the links to a series of articles on the subject dave

Posted By John Donaldson Yes I have and unfortunately I think it will be an open invitation for some of the more unscrupulous elements of our society to turn up on peoples door step saying. “Got to check your electrics Section P of the Building Regs say we have to”
Also have most LA Building Control Departments actually have the resources to deal with this.
And realistically I am not sure it will actually save any lives.
But perhaps I am just being cynical in my old age.
