Posted By Merv Newman Get ahead of the game. Take a look at www.eca.co.uk (eca = electrical contractors association) for forthcoming Working At Heights regulations in their Health and Safety section. Very usefull downloadables.

Posted By J Knight The implications of the Provision and Use of Wprk Equipment Regs 1998 are that all work equipment must meet acceptable standards for the environment and tasks for which it will be used. In ladder terms that means you are looking for Light Trades (BSEN 131) spec as a minimum for painters and decorators; domestic class will simply not do. Ladders also need to be marked, regularly inspected and properly stored; the inspection should be recorded. There is a free info sheet from HSE about ladders for window cleaning (I know it's not quite the same but the requirements are very similar) on this link http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/misc613.pdfJohn John

Posted By J Knight I just re-read your query and noticed you said a building site; you may need Industrial class for this rather than light trades depending on the kind of conditions and handling they will be exposed to,
John
