Posted By Joe Holland I am currently carrying out work for a client whose business is the supply and distribution of laminate flooring. Laminate boards are sold in packages (dependent on type of finish determines thickness)which weigh between 15 - 18kg. Taking into consideration that wholesalers will undoubtedly place these on either the lowest position or highest positions on racking, my opinion is that the weight of the packages should be displayed. MHSW 99, Regs 3 - 6, in particular 3(1)(b)states that 'Risk Assessments must be undertaken for other person not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him of his undertaking'. There is a risk that customers could injure themselves whilst lifting one or more of these packages. Are there guidelines of maximum weights that must be displayed. Though selling on the product to retailers I believe that this aspect belongs with my client.
