We have been put into the position of having 2 french sub contractors on to a site where we are principal contractor.
The responsibility of this is through the client, and we are to have no jurisdiction over them at all. They are going to be working until late evening, laying marble flooring etc. They will not have an english speaking person with them at all times, however the client has said that he is avalable via mobile phone if the need arises.
Is there anyone out there who has come across this problem before?
The site is a large domestic project therefore it does not come under the complete umbrella of the CDM Regs
Thanking you all in advance
Gerry

I worked as a health and safety co-ordinator on a large construction site here in Northern Ireland, we had a diverse workforce from Italians, Russians etc, we had a very difficult time trying to provide adequate information to all the employees on site, we used pictoral signs with no words on them, and we inducted all employees into the H&S procedures etc.. using a translator, the bottom line is that although these people may not speak the native language, employers duties are all still exactly the same, hope this helps
