Forgive my ignorance but what do people mean when they quote 'CAT 2 Lighting' at me? This is to do with lighting levels in offices. I normally go along the lines of 'suitable and sufficient'etc as per the Workplace Regs, and lighting levels in terms of 300 to 500 lux.

CAT 2 lighting is more to do with the direction of light than with brightness. A Cat 2 lightfitting is fitted with a deflector that limits the radiation of direct light to 30 degrees from the fitting, thereby reducing or eliminating glare. This makes Cat 2 lighting specifically suitable for VDU workstations.

Further to fat's posting, I think the angle should be 65 degrees and not 30 (to the azmuth) for what was formerly called Cat II lighting.
CIBSE have removed the Categories from their latest (2002) update of the definitive guide to lighting, namely CIBSE Guide 3 - Visual Environment for DSE, due to designers and specifiers wrongly assuming that Cat II was always right for DSE work - it is not.
This guide is also referred to by HSE in their publication HSG38 Lighting at Work (2002 latest update) which is a good guide for most practitioners needing advice on lighting risk assessment, luminance and design for most areas of the workplace.
Both docs are available for download to subscribers of TIONESTOP Technical Indices or Barbour Index in PDF format.
Regards...
Stuart
