Posted By Keith Archer. Hi Sandra, If you have no previous experience with the producer responsibility obligations you will find that it is a mine field as you try to gather the information required and recording of this can be a nightmare. The certificate of compliance you mention is only part of the requirements. You will also need to produce proof of recycle notes (PRNs) to show that you have met tyour obligations. Contact your local Environment Agency and discuss this with them they may be able to meet up with you and go through your obligations with you

Posted By S.Alder I assume you are talking about the "packaging Waste" regulations. Your first step should be to determine if your company is actually obligated under these regulations i.e. Turnover greater that £2 million or handling more than 50 tons od packaging per annum. If this is so i would suggest that you register with a compliance scheme such as Valpak who can assisst you when calculating your recovery obligations. Mail me direct if you would like more information. Shane

Posted By Heather Aston Sandra Who have you received this notification from? If it's from the Environment Agency then you've probably had it because you were registered with them under the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations for 2004. If this is the case, your registration number will be on the letter. Before you rush off to join a complaince scheme, see what the company has been doing for the last few years. You need to send in the certificate of compliance - guidance on how to write one should have come with the letter from the Agency - by 31 Jan so you can't afford to delay. If no-one was collecting data during 2004 you will struggle to meet the deadline now. If it looks as though you haven't been registered and you should have been - see the above on the requirements - then you have a problem. I would call the Agency's National Waste Registration Unit on 0208 305 4036 and throw yourself on their mercy! If the letter isn't from the Agency at all, then post again and tell us who it's from! Good luck Heather
