Posted By Glynn T GibsonHi Robert,

There are alot of variations on this matter and is dependant on:

 Use of premises
 Number of persons
 Distance to fire exit/s
 Exit/s capacity
 etc...

 Can you provide more info?

                Posted By GedHi Rob,

The guidelines given in Fire precautions (workplace) regs 1997 as amended 1999

Give maximum travel distances to a place of safety if only one exit and it is a low fire risk area 45 Metres more than one exit available 60metres

Normal risk production areas factory only
more than one route 45m single route 25m

 High fire risk

More than one route 25m single route 12m

These are guidelines only and should be used with caution. You must look at each part of the workplace and decide how quickly persons would react to a fire alert. Where the distances cannot be provided you will be required to provide extra fire precautions and should consult your local fire safety officer..(once you have completed your fire risk assessment)
