Posted By Steven Mellor I am currently assessing the risks associated with road haulage (HGV's/LGV's) including delivery, breakdown, vehicle maintenance, testing etc. Although I believe that I have anticipated most hazards I am very anxious to ensure that I have all jobs connected with this work covered. If anyone could offer me any assistance I would be most grateful. P.S.I would be most interested in any advice for controlling the risks associated with breakdowns on busy roads. Thanking any responders in anticipation. Steve

Posted By James K Steven, I have sent you a " safe driving policy" and a "weekly checklist for vehicles". Hope these are of some use. They are in draft at this moment so any ideas that you come up with to enhance them, please let me know. Jim

Posted By Karen Todd Hi Steven, Suggest borrowing/purchasing a copy of "The Transport Manager's & Operator's Handbook" by David Lowe. Published every year. I have the 2004 version, which (on page 427) makes reference to a report called Transport Kills by HSE - included in the report is a checklist intended to help transport operators and others to examine their current practices, etc. The checklist from Transport Kills is reproduced in the book (too long for me to type out here - sorry - but if you don't want to borrow/purchase the book, I could fax you the bit out of it?). Posted By Phil Renno Steven, Some interesting information in BS7121 part 12 Recovery vehicles and equipment - Code of practice; BS7901 Specification for recovery vehicles and vehicle recovery equipment: BSI Publicly Available Specification PAS 43 Safe working of vehicle breakdown and recovery operators: Also look at STGO regs for road recovery vehicles. Some videos on safe recovery available, Life on the Edge series. Recovery vehicles also specifically included in the L.O.L.E.R. regs. Can be a complex subject. More info email me philrenno@btinternet.com Phil Renno
