can anyone recommend a good management system and how to go about buying one or am I better to try and have a go at setting one up, we have 150 employees.
Perhaps OHSAS 18001 is better suited, we are in construction.
regards
Jim

Jim, try reading HSG 65 before you go out buying anything.
http://www.hsebooks.com/...Fname=&product%5Fid=2931
Also some of the system providers offer a preview such as OHSAS 18001, or BS8800.If you just type it into a search engine.

Also try reading the IOSH guidance 'Systems in Focus', it can be downloaded from 'Technical information' on the left. It should provide some ideas on steps needed pre-implementation, as well as how to implement.

You could download a safety management system audit question set from http://www.web-safety.com/pdffiles/freeaudit.PDF (based on HSG65), go through the questions yourself and see how much you already have in place before deciding your next move.
When you are ready and if you want to discuss how to make things construction specific give me a call.
Hope this helps.

should! someone from IOSH, not stop Kevin West, repeatedly advertising the services of National Britannia's solutions, when no request for services has been made.

Since when was " I would be pleased to meet with you to discuss etc etc" an advert?
The original thread requested "can anyone recommend a good management system and how to go about buying one"
Presumably that is what Kevin would discuss should he be granted a meeting!!
We all know the accetable use guidelines and I am sure if there is a problem Kevin would be contacted by IOSH themselves.
Surely if you think that IOSH should act you should consider contacting them directly as all you are doing is raising his "advert" back to the top of the list!!

Tyler,
I used the word repeatedly, meaning not just on this tread!
Kevin offers his services, on these forums, on average once per week. Fact is there is a problem and IOSH are not do anything about it.
I raised this on this forum, taking the tread back to the top of the list, so that IOSH members etc can make comments. Some users of these forums have made comments on this before.
regards,
Mark.

Must admit I tend to agree - this form of advertising is not required.
Kevin could easily have contacted the poster of the thread directly rather than through the forum

Jim,
We have health and safety procedures like many companies but last year we decided to go for the OHSAS 18001 plus integrate our quality and environmental systems into an IMS. (You possibly do not need to go this far straight away but it could be a long term objective). This took about 6 months and we were succesful at gaining accreditation last summer. Our initiative was client driven, which in the construction industry may be similar.
It is not too difficult and if you already have some systems in place, it may be just a review of what you have, find out what is missing and develop a few procedures and flow charts. There are numerous consultants in the field if you feel you need assistance or e-mail me and I can possibly advise you a little further.

All this talk of advertising is causing me a great deal of stress.
If I find I am suffering from stress I always find relief by turning to drink.
There's nothing better than a nice drop of Famous Grouse, or a lovely tall Gin and Tonic made with Beefeater Gin, that's Beefeater Gin (no other gin will do). Alternativly Vladivar Vodka can be used to replace the Beefeater gin to make a lovely VAT.
Advertising No Way Jose.
Dear booze companies free samples can be sent to my home addres.
