Hi all
The building I work in has recently had new fire doors instaled. This is proving to be a bit of a culture shock for the staff. Some have commented that the rooms are now very hot with the doors closed (self closing, no electro. hold open device). Also cleaning staff complain about moving hoovers and polishing machines through rooms etc. and have been propping open doors.
Any ideas on how to manage this and get people on side
Thanks

Hi Tony
I had a similar problem in a company I worked for some time ago. Education of staff is the only answer - talks, signs etc. I take it you have the little signs on the doors to say what they are?
Also a reminder that any interference with equipment for the purpose of fire fighting/prevention can bring a £5,000 fine on those responsible. (Well that's the way I put it across)
Ventilation and heating should also be addressed to everyone's satisfaction if possible. Happy workforce etc.
Difficult to police - you think your the only one closing doors in the building.
Keep at it!

Just as an after thought - Did anyone consult you about it prior to installation and think about these potential problems?

Have you thought about products such as the battery operated 'Dorgard'?
These are self contained battery operated units which hold doors open until an alarm sounds. The noise of the alarm activates the Dorgard and allows the door to swing shut atomatically.
Apparently they only take 5 mins to install!
I have never used them, but we are looking them for our office, for the very same reasons you have described.
Hope this helps
Steve

If we go that route should we just install more standard electro. hold open devices
