Posted By Steven Mellor Does anyone have any information about box stitchers / staplers i.e. safety controls, risk assessments that I could use as a starting point for my own risk assessment? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Steve

Posted By Ron Hunter Not an expert in this area, but by chance I've just been looking at a machine in our own print shop. I was extremely concerned at hand feeding of books and lack of effective guarding etc. The machine is old, and some attempts have been made to introduce fixed guards (not very effective). I've asked our Print Manager to consider using jigs to hold books together and to operate some sort of push-stick system to keep hands away. Consider this machine and its operation against PUWER principles and your conclusion might well be STOP NOW!

Posted By Steven Mellor Ron I like the idea about using something to hold the boxes and keep the hands away, although I don't know what the practical solution might be as the card boxes are too flexible and the stapling has to be quite precise. Steve

Posted By Jeff Manion Have something that might help you run through issues, I know of the machines but not been called to deal with any. Send e-mail direct and will respond. Do not forget the noise. Jeff Manion
